Understanding and Combatting Stigma

November 10 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 pm

Stigma can shape how people are perceived, treated, and supported—and its effects can extend across individuals, families, workplaces, and communities. This training examines what stigma is, where it comes from, and how negative attitudes, prejudices, and false beliefs can influence the way we respond to others. Participants will explore the root causes and impact of stigma, consider generational perspectives, and examine the relationship between stigma, empathy, and disability. The session moves beyond awareness to identify practical ways individuals can challenge stigmatizing attitudes and behaviors in their personal and professional lives. Participants will leave with a stronger understanding of how stigma develops and actionable strategies for helping create more respectful, empathetic, and inclusive environments.

Participants will:

  • Understand the root causes of stigma and the impact it can have on all of us.
  • Explain the relationship between empathy, stigma, and disability.
  • Learn practical actions that can be taken to fight against stigma.
